Adelaide was born 1836 (Newquay) and John 1839 (Illogan). Also staying with them is a Betsey Williams, possibly John’s sister. They are living at Reynolds Row/Chapel Place, Portreath, Illogan, Redruth. John's occupation is still Chief Officer, Coastguard. On the birth certificate of my Great Grandfather, Alfred Albert in 1845 they are still at the same place and father John is same occupation and rank.3,4 |

There are 7 children at home. Phebe Maria is possibly married, 12 year old John is not present and Charles Louis is yet to be born. Also on the census form is a visitor, George Denbigh, Sarah Ann’s future husband. John was transferred to Orford Ness on 25 March 1853 and he was discharged (retired) from the Coastguard on 31/12/1857 at the age of 56. His gross pay before retirement was £100 p.a.!!!5,3 |
