Welcome to the Bandy Family History Website

This website is dedicated to promoting interest in, and contact among members of, the worldwide Bandy family. The site focuses on research into the history and genealogy of the Bandy family.  We depend entirely on contributed material to keep this site fresh and interesting so please keep sending me your genealogies, raw data, opinions, photographs and news. Our policy is to try to publish everything we get.  My thanks to all who helped us.
There are many genealogies on this site, all with Bandy family content covering Great Britain, Canada, Australia, USA and New Zealand.  The main Genealogies cover multiple Bandy families (and others) from England and the US.  There are many others in the "other genealogies" sections with different content, all worth studying.

The y-DNA of many US Bandys does not match those in the UK
- this is a mystery
which we want to solve

YOU can help us resolve this mystery by contributing your DNA to
our Family tree DNA Bandy project:
The Bandy y-DNA Project: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/bandy/

AND by making sure that we know where you fit in this tree.
We need this information to underpin the DNA results.
(living people's data NOT published online but held securely in researcher's offline files)

please contact Derek Bandy with your family tree details

latest updates September 2023:

Many extra people, details and sources added to UK and US genealogies, which have both been updated

see the latest for these details

April 2022  Lots of minor mysteries solved

especially inidentified children assigned to their parents. Plus more people added and many addittional details added to peoples life stories.

April 2021:  new people, large number of minor updates and inclusion of dates of death registration

February 2021:   more people identified and linked

Mysteries: New index added  This small index links to those members of the family where I have been unable to identify their parents.  Most of them are children who died soon after birth with no helpful baptism or burial information and no intervening Census returns.  It may well be that some were born to single mothers who subsequently married and the child's surname was changed.

December 2020  More of the same minor updates - but at least one persons parents now identified

27 Nov 2020 large number of updates to incorporate data already collected but not allocated to individuals;  typically baptisms, educational records.  A small number of individuals are now included who were previously not clearly identified.  I still have masses of raw data (mostly pre-1800) where I can't see where the events/people fit.  I may just start adding them without family links so that the file is complete.

02 May 2020  Now includes Willis/Williams cousins under other genealogies
30 Apr: Includes US Data and Updated UK Bandy genealogies

30 Apr: transfer of domains from failing ISP to new ISP Fasthosts

CAUTION
All that genealogists can do with the meagre public records of past ages, is put the most reasonable construction they can on the "facts" before them. We know that the public record is sometimes wrong or misleading and we know that we might not yet have found all the records that could be relevant. We also know that oft repeated family "traditions" can sometimes be wrong as well. So these genealogies are presented as an honest attempt to reconstruct the families of the past from the records and other information at our disposal. Our conclusions may be incorrect and we apologise if you find them so. We try to show the evidence we have used and to highlight assumptions when we have made them, but space and time prevents us from recording exactly how we reached our conclusions in every case. But be assured that every conclusion and every assumption was reached after careful consideration of the alternatives.  The details of living people are not published here but may be contained in our private files.  Please contact us with your information.

We particularly welcome any corrections or additions to our work as well as any further support to our conclusions or pointers to records that we have not yet found that would improve the accuracy of our work. Please send them, preferably with references to the public record or other personal evidence, to the author.
