Her daughter, Mrs P Orchard wrote in late 2009: My mother, Mrs E J Bandy, sadly passed away recently.

She always enjoyed hearing from Bletchley Park, as she finally felt that it was at last recognized that she had done something useful in the war!

She was billeted in a very basic cottage in Shenley Brook End and found it difficult to begin with, as she missed her family – she had three sisters and two brothers – and had not been away from home before.

The thing that she loved the most was the peace and quiet – she had worked in the department store D H Evans in the West End, and the commute to work each day was hair-raising to say the least. I cannot imagine having to do that day after day, but she was always very matter-of-fact, and said “You just got on with it!” I think her generation were made of strong stuff.2
