Jim Pierson
Jim Pierson, 80, of Fruita died Wednesday, March 15, at St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center in Grand Junction. He was born Sept. 3, 1919, in Lamar, to James Leon and Lucinda Belle (York) Pierson. He spent his childhood and attended school in Lamar. He married Florence 'Flossie' Grace Willis on Feb. 9, 1947, in Delta. The Pierson family moved to Uravan in 1956 where they lived until 1979. They lived in Olathe from 1979-1999. Mrs. Pierson died April 5, 1999, in Delta. Mr. Pierson moved to Fruita following his wife's death. Mr. Pierson worked as a mill worker for the Union Carbide/Umetco Company in Uravan, retiring in 1979. He was a lifetime member of the Montrose VFW Post #784 and a member of the United Steel Workers Union. His hobbies included fishing, reading and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by a son, Bob Pierson and his wife Debby of Fruita; a daughter, Sandy Wiseman and her husband Allen of Olathe; one brother, John Pierson of Olathe; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Military graveside rites were conducted by VFW Post #784 of Montrose. Funeral services were held Monday, March 20, at 2 pm., at First Baptist Church in Olathe with Don Carney officiating. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Jim Pierson, c/o 1336 Aquarius Ave., Fruita, CO 81521. Funeral arrangements were handled by Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery.1

John Wesley Pierson

July 24, 1923 - August 11, 2007

OLATHE — Longtime Olathe resident, John Wesley Pierson died peacefully at his home on Saturday evening, August 11, 2007 at the age of 84. He was born in Eads, Colo., on July 24, 1923 to James Leon and Lucinda Belle (York) Pierson.

John recalls living in a dirt dug out before moving to Brandon, Colo. He started school and lived through the Depression years and dirt storms in Brandon. In 1936, at the age of 13, John and his family moved to Moffat, Colo., and resided there for one year, then returned to Brandon because of his father’s health. John’s father died in 1938.

John then enlisted the in U.S. Army, but was denied having had polio. In 1945 the family traveled to Austin, Colo., area to pick peaches and decided to make a permanent move to Olathe, Colo., where he soon met Lois Pope. They were married February 6, 1946, and to that marriage three children were born; Linda, Lee and Patty Pierson. Lois passed away in 1988. John and Wanda Mock were married on October 23, 1989 at the Montrose Christian Church.

John spent his life farming in the Olathe area, which he enjoyed doing. For several years John and Wanda farmed in the summer but enjoyed going to Arizona for the winter. In their later retirement years they have enjoyed and spent their time in Olathe. John enjoyed spending time with his family, and the Lord and his church have always been a large part of John’s life.

Survivors include his wife Wanda, son Lee Pierson, daughter Patty Simms, stepsons, Michael and Lyndon Mock, and grandson Shawn Knob. John was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Bill, Carl, Jim and Jack; two sisters, Clara and Grace and his daughter, Linda.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Olathe. The service will conclude at the church.
