Census 1841*6 Jun 1841 Sarah Parks was living in Tingewick BKM in the first national census in 1841, Sarah and her son Thomas are living with her father & mother-in-law Thomas & Martha (Bandy) BULL. She describes herself as a "Soldier's wife" her husband Thomas is not present.[posted with regmt to Manchester]5
Notec 1861  Thomas Bandy was able to obtain leave to say farewell to his wife and two daughters on their journey to Singapore, and although Sarah was confident that Thomas would change his mind and follow after he could arrange his discharge, he had firmly made up his mind he would not. Naturally the girls were excited about the trip and they watched preparations for the journey going on with an inner sense of joy whilst their parents talked quietly on the deck. At last came the time for departure. The mooring ropes were cast off and the sails set, enabling the ship to move slowly out of the harbour. Little did they realise that it would be the last time they would see one another again. c 1861.
Note*c 1861  A letter written by Sarah's brother from Singapore to the couple in Perth wrote a glowing account of the wealth that could be made in the Crown Colony. he affered to pay their expenses there. Thomas flatly refused but Sarah was determined to go. When the money arrived, she set sail with her 2 daughters Elizabeth and Maria possibly hoping Thomas would change his mind later. When Sarah and the girls left it was 1861. George was 9 and Joseph 6. Only once did she return to the colony in the 1870's, but only for a short visit to see her children.
On her arrival in Singapore, her brother advanced her money to start a hospital from which she earned sufficient money to buy an hotel. She was well set up in life up to her death in 1881. c 1861.
