Notea Jun 1851  There is no evidence of Samuel in the family after 1851. There are a number of deaths of Samuel Willis in the area after this date but none is clearly him a Jun 1851.5

(Witness) Burial25 Jan 1895 Samuel Williswitnessed the burial of Major James Willis on 25 Jan 1895 at St Mary the Virgin, Fryerning, ESS, ENG; The funeral of the late Mr M J Willis, whose death we reported last week, took place at Fryerning churchyard on Saturday afternoon. The mourners were Mr J S A Willis, father, Mr Samuel Willis, brother, Mr Robert Lambert, brother-in-law, and Mr Lamb. There were also present Mrs Samuel Willis, Mrs S W Blyth, Messers G P Smith, H J Gardner, H Raven , J J Smith and H Such. The funeral service was conducted by the priest in charge, the Revd Sackville West. Messrs Bentley and Francis were the undertakers.11,12 
Note1901  According to Sara Willis & family, Samuel supposedly did not like farming & allowed Fryerning Hall to become run down (it was rented, not owned by the family). He apparently had to leave & then started up a corn chandlery business locally. He loved to hunt. in 1901.1

He at one time farmed Fryerning Hall Farm, which was also occupied by his father and his grandfather, the last-named being the first of the family to occupy the Hall, which remained in the family for more than a hundred years. His father, the late Mr J S A Willis, was a keen member of the old Essex Yeomanry, and was known as 'Bonny Willis'. Deceased was a good sportsman, hunting with the Essex Hounds, and was also fond of shooting. Upon giving up he farm he went to live at Heybridge House. He had been retired for many years, but was very fond of attending local markets. A devoted husband and father, he was always of a cheerful disposition. His younger son, Samuel, died about three years ago after a short illness. His death came as a severe blow to deceased, who never recovered rfom the shock. He leaves a widow, one son and a daughter.19

The deceased, who was 28 years of age, was well known and very popular. During the war he was in the Artists' Rifles, and afterwards went to Lady Angela Forbes at Warley for dairying and poutry-keeping, and also attended the Institute of Agriculture at Chelmsford, where he won high praise for proficiency in cheese and butter making. Latterly he had been with the Dominion Dairy Co, Aylesbury. The funeral was on Monday at Fryerning Church, the Rev R Pemberton officiating. There was a large attendance of sympathisers. A favourite hymn of the deceased's 'We love the place, O God' was sung. The mourners were: Mr S Willis, father; Miss Willis, sister; Mr and Mrs J Willis, brother and sister-in-law; Sir Harry Lamb, G.H.E, K.C.M.G, uncle; Messrs W Ward, A Wooding, A H Long representing the firm at Aylesbury. There were also present Mr and Mrs West, Mr and Mrs S W Blyth, Mrs Caton, Mr Learmouth, Miss Self, Mr Balch (Witham), Mr Jackson, Mrs Bovington, Mrs W Green, and others. The grace was lined with flowers and evergreens by Mrs Pond. The beautiful floral tributes included one from the directors of the Dominion Dairy Co, 'in deepest sympathy and grateful remembrance of devoted service', and one from the staff. Sympathetic references were made on Sunday in Ingatestone Church and at Aylesbury.9

A favourite hymn of the deceased's 'We love the place, O God' was sung. The mourners were: Mr S Willis, father; Miss Willis, sister; Mr and Mrs J Willis, brother and sister-in-law; Sir Harry Lamb, G.H.E, K.C.M.G, uncle; Messrs W Ward, A Wooding, A H Long representing the firm at Aylesbury. There were also present Mr and Mrs West, Mr and Mrs S W Blyth, Mrs Caton, Mr Learmouth, Miss Self, Mr Balch (Witham), Mr Jackson, Mrs Bovington, Mrs W Green, and others. The grace was lined with flowers and evergreens by Mrs Pond. The beautiful floral tributes included one from the directors of the Dominion Dairy Co, 'in deepest sympathy and grateful remembrance of devoted service', and one from the staff. Sympathetic references were made on Sunday in Ingatestone Church and at Aylesbury."
